Check Point Software Technologies to Secure BackWeb's Internet Broadcasting SoftwareCheck Point's FireWall-1 is First Network Security Software to Support BackWeb ProtocolINTERNET WORLD, NEW YORK, NY – December 11, 1996 – Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKPF), the market leader in network security software and inventor of Stateful Inspection, today announced immediate support for BackWeb Technologies' personal broadcasting software, the BackWeb Channel Server. Check Point is the first network security software vendor to provide secure support for BackWeb's Polite Agent delivery technology. BackWeb's software allows companies to build broadcast programming channels on the Internet to deliver their own rich content and applications directly to BackWeb's subscribing customers. Check Point™ FireWall-1™ users can obtain BackWeb Channel Server support by downloading add-on code from Check Point's Web server (http://www.checkpoint.com) at no charge and integrating it into current FireWall-1 installations. Support for BackWeb's Channel Server software is possible through Check Point's patent-pending Stateful Inspection technology, which maintains state information for all network communications. BackWeb's Polite Agent transmission technology is based on UDP, a connectionless protocol. FireWall-1 secures UDP-based applications by maintaining a virtual connection on top of UDP communications. Check Point is able to provide almost-immediate support for new applications such as BackWeb through FireWall-1's INSPECT™ programming language and programmable INSPECT engine. These technologies enable Check Point to rapidly add support for new applications, as well as allowing network administrators to easily customize the firewall to incorporate custom, in-house applications. "As we reverse the web so that rich content finds interested users rather than users having to search for it, we reduce the cost of giving users access to the Internet's vast information," said Eli Barkat, CEO of BackWeb. "That's good news for companies as long as we can assure them that their critical corporate data isn't compromised when users receive the channel content they've subscribed to. Check Point FireWall-1 is the market leading network security software that provides the unbreachable security that BackWeb's corporate customers need." "The growing number of organizations maximizing their investments in Internet and intranet technologies to deliver value-added information and services has greatly increased the risk of security breaches," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "FireWall-1's extensible architecture and support for connectionless protocols gives Check Point the unique ability to provide almost-instantaneous support for new and emerging Internet applications, such as BackWeb, which customers are quickly adopting."
