F-Secure uses BackWeb's Polite™ Push To send Virus Updates

Automatic, Real-Time Delivery Save Users from Need to Regularly Download F-Secure Anti-Virus Software Updates

SAN JOSE, Calif. — December 11, 2000 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push communications infrastructure for e-business, today announced that F-Secure (HEX: FSC), a leader in centrally managed security solutions for the mobile, distributed enterprise will use BackWeb's Polite push technology to automatically send updates designed to keep F-Secure Anti-Virus customers current with the latest virus protection. F-Secure also intends to incorporate BackWeb's groundbreaking Universal Push technology to protect F-Secure customers against all virus threats, including those that might attack software on next-generation wireless devices.

"BackWeb has been the industry's leading innovator in providing a scalable push communications infrastructure software that works with any content, over any network, for any user," said Tanya Candia, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing at F-Secure. "BackWeb is a crucial element in

F-Secure's strategy to offer centrally managed, widely distributed security solution for all users. In the future, we expect to deploy BackWeb's Universal Push technology as virus threats extend beyond the desktop to Web-enabled wireless devices."

F-Secure will use BackWeb's push infrastructure to send regular real-time updates to all users of F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.1 worldwide. The service saves F-Secure customers from having to worry about constantly checking and updating their virus protection programs. BackWeb's patented Polite Push technology will automatically distribute updated lists of all the latest known viruses with no effect on performance of other network applications such as email and browsing. With BackWeb, F-Secure will send updates only when network bandwidth is available, so users receive updates completely in the background.

"With its far-reaching vision and obvious concern for its customers, F-Secure's strategic decision to deploy BackWeb's Polite push infrastructure represents another exciting application for push," said Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "We look forward to working closely with F-Secure as it breaks new ground in the practice of keeping every user on every device fully protected from the ever-evolving threat of software viruses. "

F-Secure Anti-Virus is the first virus protection solution to combine the power of multiple search engines. F-Secure Anti-Virus is available in network and single user versions, which include automatic virus alarms, reporting, and disinfecting functions. F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.1 has received various awards and prizes, including Level 1 and Level 2 certification in the Checkmark tests carried out by West Coast Labs. It has also been named "Excellent AV Product" in the VTC scanner tests conducted by the Virus Test Center at Hamburg University.
