BackWeb BackWeb Names Daniel Platzker Vice President of Product Strategy & Management

SAN JOSE, Calif.- November 1, 2001 - BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, today announced the appointment of Daniel Platzker as vice president of product strategy and management.

In this role, Platzker is responsible for leading BackWeb's product strategy, product roadmaps and the complete product lifecycle process. Platzker will help the company develop next-generation attention management and ProactivePortal solutions to address the demand of must-have Proactive™ notification and offline access to the burgeoning portal market which is expected to grow from $2 billion this year to $6.2 billion in 2003.

Platzker brings more than 17 years of experience and leadership in the area of developing and launching new high tech products. Prior to joining BackWeb, Platzker was founder and CEO of Tegrity, a high-tech startup dedicated to the design and marketing of leading e-learning platforms. While at Tegrity, Platzker led the company from concept to over $3 million annual revenue with over 600 major education and corporate customers. Previously, Platzker held executive positions in marketing, sales, product development, and operations in several Silicon Valley high-tech companies, including Daisy, Castelle and EIP. He also has patents in the image processing areas and is a Prime Minister Award winner (Israel) for software innovation.

Platzker earned a Masters Degree in management from Santa Clara University, graduated cum laude from Israel's Technion School of Electrical Engineering, and served as an officer in the Israeli Army's elite intelligence unit.
