San Jose, CA— September 20, 2001- BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, has been named to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Technology Fast 50" Program for the Silicon Valley, a ranking of 50 of the fastest-growing technology companies in the area. BackWeb was ranked number three within the Top 50. Rankings are based on the percentage of growth in revenues for the five-year period from 1996-2000.

Winners of the 22 regional Fast 50 programs in the United States and Canada are automatically entered in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 500 program, which ranks North America's top 500 fastest growing technology companies.

Deloitte & Touche has asked this year's Fast 50 companies to make monetary donations to relief funds to help rescue workers and their families in New York and Washington D.C. in lieu of an awards ceremony.
