BackWeb Now Shipped as Part of Data Fellow´s
F-Secure BackWeb 4.0 Product

BackWeb plays key role in proactive delivery of F-Secure Anti-Virus signature database updates and product upgrades

SAN JOSE, Calif., — September 9, 1999 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of Priority Internet communication software for the extended enterprise, today announced that its technology has been embedded into Data Fellow's F-Secure BackWeb 4.0 for updating F-Secure Anti-Virus signature databases and for delivering upgrades for F-Secure products. Data Fellows is one of the world´s leading developers of data security products, and has tens of thousands of customers in more than 100 countries.

"F-Secure BackWeb eliminates the need to remember to update anti-virus signatures and upgrade other programs," said Tomi Tuominen, development manager at Data Fellows. "Today, with the proliferation of viruses, it is more important than ever that anti-virus programs are up-to-date.

With BackWeb an integral part of the F-Secure BackWeb product, users can always be sure that they have the latest updates without having to search the Web. At Data Fellows, we are in the business of giving our customers peace of mind, and F-Secure BackWeb is a key part of it."

F-Secure BackWeb uses BackWeb's Polite Agent™ technology that makes it possible for users to receive information and software updates without having to download them from the Web. Updates are sent politely to the user's desktop using only idle bandwidth, thus never impacting the user's ability to do other activities such as accessing e-mail or surfing the Net. Users are alerted immediately when there is new information or updates available.

"This is a significant announcement for BackWeb in that Data Fellows has embedded our Internet communications technology into a product that will help computer users around the world ensure they have the latest computer virus fighting tools," said Todd Johnson, vice president of worldwide marketing. "The Data Fellows implementation reinforces our belief that there is a rapidly growing market for products that proactively deliver time-sensitive, business-critical information to the extended enterprise."

Data Fellows' target markets are the business-to-business, medium and high-end corporate, governmental, and educational markets. Its prospective customers are typically organizations that have implemented enterprise wide networks, and value the highly network independent management and administration tools that the Company's products incorporate. Its F-Secure Anti-Virus, with multiple scanning engines (including F-PROT and AVP), is the most comprehensive, real-time virus scanning and protection system for all Windows platforms. It is a three-tiered solution aimed at the corporate market, and includes a wealth of features for network management and centralized deployment.
