BackWeb Technologies Announces New Rapid Survey Module As Part of Accelerator Suite of Products

SAN JOSE, Calif. — August 30, 1999 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of Priority Internet communication software for the extended enterprise, today announced the availability of the new BackWeb Rapid Survey module as part of its Accelerator suite of products. Rapid Survey is an out-of-the box, proactive closed-loop information solution that enables companies to quickly gain detailed insight into their business. Rapid Survey enables them to solicit immediate feedback on activities that are crucial to their success, such as product roll-outs and service campaigns, from customers, partners and employees throughout the extended enterprise.

"In this new era of accelerating market changes, companies are looking for new ways to get closer to their customers, partners and employees," said Eli Barkat, Chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "With BackWeb Rapid Survey, companies can now proactively gather crucial information from the extended enterprise that enables them to make faster, more highly-educated business decisions."

BackWeb Rapid Survey
Rapid Survey improves a company's responsiveness to customer, partner and employee feedback by enabling it to easily publish surveys to collect and analyze information quickly and easily. Surveys are published through a web-based wizard interface and can be created with questions that have one response, multiple responses or text answers.

The Rapid Survey module takes advantage of BackWeb's Flash notifications so companies can capture the user's attention for higher response rates. Utilizing BackWeb's Polite Upstream™, the Rapid Survey module enables two-way publishing or user interaction. With surveys, a publisher sends out a survey message, then users send back responses from which the BackWeb Rapid Survey module generates a report. In the report, survey results are aggregated, so there is no manual tallying of data. Users who have access to view the survey results can see the aggregate data, the raw data by each user and also know who actually received the survey and who responded. For participants, Rapid Survey eliminates the time- and energy-consuming process associated with traditional e-mail and online surveys.

The BackWeb Suite of Accelerator products allows proactive, efficient delivery of any size or type of information to users both inside and outside the organization. In addition, its patented Polite Agent™ technology enables companies to take advantage of unused network capacity to automatically deliver information in the background. This avoids interruptions of other applications and activities, such as accessing e-mail and surfing the Web.

Rapid Survey is available as part of the BackWeb Service Accelerator, or as an optional module for the BackWeb Sales Accelerator, which debuted in late 1998.
