BackWeb Receives Basex Excellence AwardLeading Analyst Group Recognizes BackWeb's ProactivePortal Server Version 3San Jose, Calif., July 23, 2003— BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of offline web infrastructure software, today announced that Basex, a leading research and consulting firm that pioneered collaborative business knowledge research, has awarded a Basex Excellence Award (a "Basey") to BackWeb in recognition of Version 3 of the BackWeb® ProactivePortal® Server. The Basey award is given to industry-leading companies who have achieved all-around excellence for an outstanding product or service in the Collaborative Business Knowledge market. The Basey was recently presented to BackWeb at the Basex event, "The New Workplace: Optimizing Organizational Productivity." Basex recognized BackWeb's product as the industry's first offering that gives mobile enterprise workers offline access to enterprise portals, intranets and web-based applications. Version 3 introduced an enhanced syncing capability designed to help maximize the value of these web-based investments. This capability enables mobile professionals to not only access content offline, but also to update critical data, presented via a corporate portal or intranet, while they are disconnected from the network. According to Basex, Version 3's revolutionary approach to accessing web-based corporate information and applications demonstrates that both bandwidth and online access don't need to be deterrents to knowledge-intensive work for mobile users. "BackWeb's introduction of ProactivePortal Version 3 represents a major technological innovation for companies interested in increasing the productivity and effectiveness of employees working outside of the office," said Jonathan B. Spira, chief analyst and chief executive officer of Basex, Inc. "As more companies move critical content and applications to the Web, and as the mobile workforce continues to grow, we see the synchronization of content as a key enabling technology for this decade." "While most large organizations today realize the value of enterprise initiatives, such as portals and intranets, many projects fail to effectively serve sales people, field service personnel and other key employees who are disconnected or poorly connected to the network. Meanwhile, this audience stands to benefit most from timely access to mission critical applications and information which these initiatives provide," said Eli Barkat, chairman and chief executive officer of BackWeb. "With ProactivePortal Version 3, we enable anytime, anywhere access to enterprise web content and offer employees essentially the same user experience regardless their physical location or connectivity. We are very excited to be one of only five companies recognized for product excellence by Basex and proudly accept the Basex Excellence Award." |
