BackWeb To Host CIO Series Focusing On Maximizing Portal Value

Sessions Will explore how to Turn Information into Assets

SAN JOSE, Calif., – July 15, 2002 – BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, today announced that it will host a series of exclusive CIO Breakfast and Roundtable meetings featuring Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies, and Larry Bowden, vice president of IBM's Portal Solutions and Software Group.

Led by veteran industry CIOs, the sessions will explore best practices for successfully creating real business value from information. The primary focus of the presentations will be on making progress through incremental, highly leveraged investments, such as enterprise portals, rather than massive new investments.

BackWeb will kick off the first of the CIO Series in Chicago on July 30, followed by a joint CIO breakfast with IBM in Kansas City on July 31st. The companies will be rolling out further meetings from August through September.

"Companies are focused today on achieving quick, incremental returns on their investment with small to midrange projects," said Erez Lorber, vice president of worldwide business development, BackWeb Technologies. "Enterprise portals represent a significant means to this end as they can integrate many existing technologies to provide additional business value to the enterprise. By providing offline access to critical portal content, such as customer intelligence, extensive price lists and corporate presentations, you increase the value of the enterprise portal, which in turn will accelerate its adoption."

Joining Mr. Barkat and Mr. Bowden will be industry experts Charles Popper, former CIO of Merck, and Judy Shapiro, former CIO of Bowne Corporation and Senior VP Seagrams and SmithKline Beecham.
