ORBIS Integrates BackWeb e-Accelerator with New Web-Enabled ORBIS iC Solutions

International e-CRM Leader Builds BackWeb's Polite Push Technology into New Solutions for Managing Customer, Sales and Partner Relationships

SAN JOSE, Calif. — July 11, 2000 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of push for e-business solutions, today announced that ORBIS, a leading international provider of standard CRM software, is integrating the popular BackWeb e-Accelerator application with ORBIS iC Solutions, the company's Web-enabled CRM solution based on leading-edge component technologies. The integration of BackWeb's patented Polite™ push technology with ORBIS iC Solutions allows ORBIS e-CRM customers to use the Web to automatically keep customers, employees and partners completely up to date on all aspects of business.

ORBIS iC Solutions leverage BackWeb's Polite push infrastructure to integrate direct and indirect sales channels with partner and customer relationships – all through a standard Web browser. For instance, ORBIS customers can use BackWeb's unique Automated Encyclopedia feature to keep key documents, presentations and materials current. BackWeb also enables sales managers to automatically ensure that field personnel always have the latest promotional and sales materials.

"Optimally informed employees, business partners and customers are at the heart of today's e-business enterprise – and the Web is the ideal universal vehicle for that vital communication," said Markus Backes, Sales and Marketing Director at ORBIS, based in Saabrucken, Germany and a long-time consulting and migration partner for SAP AG. "BackWeb's Polite push technology adds unparalleled immediacy to ORBIS iC Solutions, and gives ORBIS customers a distinct competitive edge in an era where advantage is everything."

ORBIS expects BackWeb e-Accelerator's seamless Web browser integration and Rapid Survey module will benefit customers in all key ORBIS markets, including service companies, pharmaceutical leaders, and consumer goods manufacturers. With BackWeb's patented Polite™ push solutions, companies send information only when network bandwidth is available, so even large files have no impact on network and system performance. BackWeb's attention management tools instantly alert users to the arrival of time-sensitive information while interaction reporting confirms that employees and partners have received and acted upon the information.

"ORBIS has accurately pinpointed the future of CRM, and we are excited to provide the Polite push infrastructure that will make ORBIS iC Solutions a powerful addition to any e-business environment," said Todd Johnson, vice president of worldwide marketing at BackWeb Technologies. "We expect our relationship with ORBIS to significantly extend our reach into the e-CRM space and further establish BackWeb as the Internet's de facto push standard."
