BackWeb's Push Technology Helps ADP Maintain Its Edge with Auto Dealers NationwideAutomotive Retail Leader Arms Sales Forcewith Latest Promotions, Pricing and Training Updates via BackWebSAN JOSE, Calif. — July 10, 2000 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, today announced that Dealer Services Group of Automatic Data Processing (NSYE: AUD), the leading provider of integrated solutions to auto and truck manufacturers and dealers, has selected BackWeb's Polite™ push technology to automatically keep its sales force armed with late-breaking sales and product information. ADP® Dealer Services plans to outfit its North American sales force with constant updates to keep the group – which serves more than 18,000 dealerships in the US and Canada – in touch with the company's latest products, pricing, promotions and training programs. "The ability to keep our sales team abreast of late-breaking news and programs is key to maintaining our competitive leadership," said John Gleason, division vice president of sales for ADP Dealer Services Group. "When salespeople are spending time gathering information, they are cutting into selling time. BackWeb-enabled updates will help our salespeople spend more time with customers — armed with better, more up-to-date information." ADP will use BackWeb to proactively send training materials, presentations, product and pricing information, promotion information, sales incentive updates, news alerts, and software release notes. "BackWeb's push infrastructure delivers on so many levels – both by automatically sending business-critical information, and by ensuring that vital alerts aren't lost in a sea of incoming emails," said Gleason. With BackWeb, ADP can send information whenever network bandwidth is available, so sales representatives can receive content with no effect on other network applications such as email and browsing. In addition, the user's ability to view delivered content even when offline offers even greater flexibility. The company also expects to improve effectiveness of key programs, incentives and materials by polling sales personnel with BackWeb's Rapid Survey feature. BackWeb's unique attention management tools – including multimedia Flashes that automatically appear on the user's screen – instantly alert salespeople to the arrival of time-sensitive information. BackWeb delivers multimedia-rich digital packages of any size or format, including audio, video, graphics and html. "ADP leads the automotive retail industry because it is not only a provider of technology solutions, it is also an astute technology user ," said Todd Johnson, vice president of marketing at BackWeb. "BackWeb is pleased to become an important part of this successful sales organization, and a core component of ADP Dealer Services' groundbreaking approach to sales readiness and market penetration."
