Kaeser Deploys BackWeb's Polite Push Technology to Deliver Critical Information Via Global Intranet and Extranet

Air Compression Equipment Leader Brings Together Sales Personnel and Resellers in 50 Countries with Web Communication System Built on BackWeb Sales Accelerator

SAN JOSE, Calif. — July 5, 2000 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, today announced that Kaeser Kompressoren GmbH, a leading supplier of precision compressed air equipment, has selected BackWeb's Polite™ push technology to automatically keep the company's sales force and resellers up-to-date with the latest sales and product information.

Based in Coburg, Germany, Kaeser is deploying BackWeb Sales Accelerator via its global Intranet site to automatically bring sales presentations, promotion information and other time-sensitive content to Kaeser employees in 35 countries. Later this year, Kaeser will extend its delivery solution to its Extranet environment serving more than 1,000 resellers in 50 countries worldwide. The new system will keep sales personnel and resellers from having to seek out new sales materials and information, saving them valuable time and heightening productivity.

"BackWeb is an exciting enhancement to our internal and reseller communications environment – and a strategic component of our overall Web-based environment," said Falko Lameter, chief information officer at Kaeser. "BackWeb's Sales Accelerator provides a seamless Polite push architecture and elegant notification and feedback features that make sending even complex, media-rich updates easy."

Working with its existing SAP implementation, Kaeser will utilize BackWeb's unique Market Intelligence Manager to send competitive information updates to offices and resellers worldwide. BackWeb sends information only when network bandwidth is available, so sales representatives and resellers can receive content with no effect on performance of other network applications such as email and browsing. In addition, the ability to view delivered content even when users are not online offers even greater flexibility.

Kaeser also will utilize BackWeb's Rapid Survey feature to easily poll recipients about the effectiveness of key programs, incentives and materials. BackWeb's unique attention management tools – including multimedia Flashes that automatically appear on the user's screen – instantly alert users to the arrival of time-sensitive information, such as a new sales program or an SAP system outage. BackWeb delivers multimedia-rich digital packages of any size or format, including audio, video, graphics and html.

"We are delighted that Kaeser has joined the growing list of global leaders that recognize how BackWeb's Polite push technology can turn employee and reseller communication into a distinct competitive advantage," said Todd Johnson, vice president of worldwide marketing at BackWeb Technologies. "For 80 years, Kaeser has been at the forefront of innovation in its field. With BackWeb as a core infrastructure for its global communications, we are certain Kaeser will continue that leadership for decades to come."
