BackWeb´s Polite Push Infrastructure Selected for KPMG Consulting´s eWorkforce SolutionAs Part of eWorkforce Alliance, BackWeb to Power Proactive HR PortalsSAN JOSE, Calif. — June 19, 2000 — BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB) a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, and KPMG Consulting, Inc., a leading provider of Internet integration services, today announced that BackWeb's patented Polite™ push technology is a core component of KPMG Consulting's eWorkforce Solution. In collaboration with KPMG and Cisco Systems, BackWeb is joining with three other industry leaders as part of a Strategic Alliance to create a solution that enables companies to empower their employees through proactive enterprise information delivery. EWorkforce will be sold and deployed through KPMG's World-Class Human Resources practice. As part of the alliance, KPMG and BackWeb also will pursue joint sales opportunities for the eWorkforce Solution. BackWeb's Polite push technology adds bandwidth-efficient Web delivery to several components within eWorkforce. This ability saves time for employees who historically have searched for needed information and offers executives an easy, powerful method to strategically communicate with their global workforce. eWorkforce — which also incorporates technology from DataChannel, Oblix and Interlynx Technologies — gives employees access to self-service applications for communications, administration, management and learning. KPMG Consulting provides the integration and professional services required to implement the eWorkforce Solution. "The eWorkforce Strategic Alliance will deliver the Web-based solution that market leaders have sought to reduce administrative costs, improve employee productivity, and support business growth across geographical and functional boundaries," said Ray Zaso, managing director for KMPG Consulting's World-Class Human Resources Solutions. "BackWeb proactively delivers HR content directly to the desktop. This rapid communication and delivery component will provide accurate, timely information to the employee, and in turn will benefit the enterprise." The BackWeb Advantage for eWorkforce
"Our collaboration with KPMG Consulting and the other eWorkforce alliance members is an important step forward in our effort to create truly proactive portals powered by the Internet's de facto push infrastructure," said Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "Together we are transforming the notion of what a portal is, and heightening its value to the enterprise and to the employee." Announced today by KPMG and Cisco Systems, the KPMG eWorkforce Solution is modeled after Cisco's own Workforce Optimization applications and KPMG Consulting's best practices. The KPMG eWorkforce Solution offers a role-based enterprise information portal, the integration of Web-based HR, payroll and benefits applications, proactive and automated delivery of content and applications, and the potential to deploy other best-of-breed business solutions. The eWorkforce Solution spans consulting through integration services and is deployed through KPMG's World-Class Human Resources practice.
