BackWeb Expands Relationship with SAP Through New Agreements

Builds on Successful Three-Year Alliance by Expanding Relationship and Bundling New BackWeb Features within SAP Mobile Sales/Service 3.0

SAN JOSE, Calif. — June 12, 2001 — BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push communications infrastructure for e-business today announced SAP will bundle new BackWeb® features with SAP Mobile Sales/Service 3.0 suite, which since 1999 has leveraged BackWeb technology to politely and automatically deliver sales materials and alerts to field sales forces. In addition, the companies have broadened their relationship through a new collaborative selling agreement, including new OEM and Sales relationships.

With BackWeb technology, SAP customers can add a powerful proactive communications element to enterprise communications, enterprise portals, customer relationship management, and partner relationship management applications. This capability ensures that critical content is delivered to the extended enterprise including customers, employees, suppliers and partners.

"We have enjoyed a prosperous and productive relationship with BackWeb since 1999, and today's announcement is evident that our alliance is stronger than ever," said Michael Park, VP of SAP America CRM SMO at SAP America. "BackWeb's priority notification and content delivery technology provides SAP customers with a distinct competitive edge, allowing them to ensure that the right information reaches the right person at the right time. We look forward to exploring more ways to work together as we help e-business compete in today's rapidly changing environment."

"SAP is a terrific partner, and we're delighted to see our relationship flourish at a time when successful partnerships are crucial," said Erez Lorber, vice president of business development, of BackWeb Technologies. "Our agreement offers the promise of dramatically broadening BackWeb's footprint worldwide, and bringing the BackWeb advantage to innovative e-businesses through our tight integration with SAP® solutions."

BackWeb's patented Polite® content delivery and alert notifications allow e-businesses to deliver content of any format and size to desktop users, by using available, unused network bandwidth. Users can receive content in the background without creating performance interruptions to their other network applications such as email and browsing. With BackWeb's multimedia Flash notifications, alerts automatically appear on the user's screen, instantly informing recipients of the arrival of critical content that often requires immediate attention. The alerts pop up without interfering with current applications in use on the desktop. BackWeb's unique closed-loop process enables companies to monitor the delivery and interactions with each piece of content sent.

With the SAP Mobile Sales/Service 3.0 suite, SAP will bundle BackWeb Foundation™ Ver. 6.1 and BackWeb e-Accelerator™ Ver. 2.21, thereby delivering unique BackWeb technologies that were previously unavailable from SAP. These include multimedia desktop Flash notifications that alert field personnel of critical events, closed-loop reporting that allows managers to track user interactions with deliveries, guaranteed receipt of critical information, and video and audio communications capable of delivering high-quality multimedia content to any user – regardless of network connection speed.
