BackWeb Infocenter 4.0 Accelerates Compaq Customer Service and Support

Presario's New Compaq Service Connection, Based On BackWeb Infocenter, Provides Users The Most Recent Software and Information Updates

San Jose, Calif., (June 9, 1998) -- BackWeb™ Technologies' announced today that, in a move that raises the bar on customer service and support, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ), the home PC market leader, is using BackWeb's Infocenter application to implement a strategic service and support initiative for all Presario desktop and laptop PCs worldwide called the Compaq Service Connection. This new service will provide customers with automated, timely software updates and relevant product service and support information. Updates and information from the Compaq Service Connection will further simplify system maintenance and improve the quality of the user experience.

"Compaq is committed to its customers and continually strives to achieve greater levels of service and support," said Mike Rubin, director, product marketing, consumer product group, Compaq Computer Corporation. "BackWeb's software enables us to establish direct and immediate communication with our customers, allowing us to empower them with the latest software and the newest maintenance information, and to easily receive feedback from them and learn about their experiences with the Presario PC's. Presario users will effortlessly receive Compaq Service Connection software updates and information while they are connected to the Internet. With BackWeb's Polite Agent™ distribution software users can continue their normal work while they receive updates from Compaq. BackWeb's Polite server software distributes information in the background of the system, using only available bandwidth and ensuring that the users' work is not interrupted.

"Compaq's use of the BackWeb Infocenter to implement their service and support initiative will assist them in establishing an ongoing relationship with their customers long after the purchase of their PC," said Eli Barkat, chief executive officer of BackWeb Technologies. "Consumers are looking for PC vendors that support them during the ownership cycle and Compaq is leading the way with Compaq Service Connection."

BackWeb's Infocenter and the Compaq Service Center will come pre-loaded on Presarios that show up in retail stores starting June 9, 1998.
