Computer Associates Launches CA-TV to Deliver Personalized Content Directly to Clients and Channel PartnersEmploys BackWeb Technology To Deliver Content and Data Using Spare BandwidthIslandia, N.Y., (June 8, 1998) -- Computer Associates International, Inc., (CA), today launched "CA-TV" -- a no-cost Internet-based service that proactively delivers news about CA, technical updates, software maintenance releases and sales promotions, directly to clients, channel partners, and other subscribers. CA-TV also supports LAN-attached and mobile users wherever there is Internet connectivity. Powered by software from BackWeb Technologies, Inc., CA-TV (www.cai.com) provides information tailored to subscribers' unique needs, and delivers it directly to their desktop. "BackWeb is a premier information delivery system that will enhance information flow to our clients and channel partners worldwide," said Marc Sokol, CA senior vice president of advanced technology. "CA-TV provides a critical means of communication to our clients and channel partners, automatically providing timely information on CA within user-specified parameters." News flashes are sent to recipients based on their unique environment and preferences. For example, the Unicenter TNG Microsoft Exchange Option can be promoted via a news flash and sent only to clients who have licensed Unicenter TNG and Microsoft Exchange. Similarly, Inoculan signature files can be sent directly to Inoculan customers' desktops to update their virus protection automatically and instantly. CA-TV, the first of several CA initiatives involving BackWeb's enterprise push technology, delivers content and data completely in the background. It uses spare bandwidth so that subscribers, for example, won't notice that information is being downloaded until the process is complete. For mobile users, CA-TV has a throttle that accelerates or decelerates downloads based on the subscriber's usage. BackWeb's knowledge distribution technology seamlessly distributes user-specified information to the desktop, which users can access at their convenience. CA-TV can deliver updates daily, weekly, or monthly. Advanced security features encrypt and digitally sign each message, assuring recipients that the content and data was not tampered with. The initial implementation of CA-TV provides information on such topics as: * News about CA and its products "Receiving real-time information from CA-TV, Computer Associates' customers and other subscribers can immediately begin leveraging CA promotions, make critical business decisions based on CA's product plans, strategies and technical information and stay up-to-date on CA news," said Eli Barkat, BackWeb's CEO. "We're pleased to be able to work with CA to provide them with a superior solution for their knowledge distribution needs. "To register for CA-TV, subscribers need only complete an electronic form that details their areas of interest and computing environment. Today's announcement builds upon an April 1998 agreement between CA and BackWeb in which the companies agreed to provide Polite Server and Agent technology to Unicenter TNG software delivery clients.
