BackWeb Technologies Announces ProactivePortal Server Support for Solaris

SAN JOSE, CA.- May 23, 2002 - BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, announced today ProactivePortal Server version 2 for Solaris. The extension of the product to support a mission-critical platform, such as Solaris, enables customers who are standardizing on Solaris to integrate ProactivePortal offline and proactive notification technology into their portal initiatives.

The announcement follows on the heels of BackWeb's recent launch of ProactivePortal Server version 2 for Windows. BackWeb has already been chosen as the offline vendor of choice by leading portal framework providers such as IBM WebSphere Portal, Plumtree Software, and SAP Portals, as well as leading system integrators such as PwC Consulting.

All the traditional features and strengths of the ProactivePortal solution are integrated in this release, including the complete Polite® Communications delivery solution. The Polite technology includes network sensitive delivery methods, byte-level updating, as well as the BackWeb® Polite Neighborcast® technology. This technology enables users to automatically download content during network idle time, ensuring that only the changes to previously published documents are delivered to subscribers and to efficiently deliver content over wide-area-networks (WANs) to remote users. In addition, this release works in tandem with the BackWeb notification and closed-loop reporting technologies. These technologies ensure users are made aware of new critical information through the use of Flash Alerts, and publishers can track interactions with content, allowing corporations to measure and assess the usage of their portals.
