BackWeb Technologies Rounds Out Management Team

SAN JOSE, California. (May 20, 1997) - BackWeb Technologies, a leading provider of Internet push/pull solutions, today announced that it has made several key additions to its management team worldwide.

* Carolyn Aver, formerly of Parc Place-Digitalk, is named Chief Financial Officer
* Hubert Delany is appointed Chief Technology Officer, joining BackWeb from Gartner Group
* Leif Ringard joins the company as Country Manager, Germany from NetManage

The CFO and CTO positions were formerly held by personnel on loan from BRM Technologies, the company that founded BackWeb, Check Point Software Technologies and MediaPath. The appointment of a sales manager in Germany marks the start of BackWeb's operations in Europe. Ringard reports to Marc Kawam, Managing Director for European operations, which are headquartered in Amsterdam.

Carolyn Aver, Chief Financial Officer
Carolyn Aver has more than 15 years of financial experience in rapidly growing software companies. She joined BackWeb from Parc Place-Digitalk where she served as vice president and chief financial officer for four years. She was previously chief financial officer at Autodesk, and worked at accounting firm Ernst & Young.

Aver is a certified public accountant and is a member of California Association of Certified Public Accounts. She is also a member of the Software Publishers Association CFO Committee, which is responsible for setting industry standards and driving public policy in the areas of finance and tax. Aver received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University, Hayward.

Hubert Delany, Chief Technology Officer
Hubert Delany is BackWeb's technology eyes and ears, responsible for ensuring that the company's technological vision is in step with customers' anticipated requirements. He joined BackWeb from the Gartner Group, a leading industry consulting firm, where he was research director for Internet strategies and advanced technologies. He helped launch Gartner's Internet Strategies (INET), the most successful service in the company's history. Delany also served as Gartner's lead analyst for platform and operating system technologies.

Delany was previously vice president and chief technical officer at Onyx Sciences, a reseller for massively parallel processing systems, and was a consultant to Thinking Machines Corporation, developing and implementing visualization systems for finite-element analysis, molecular dynamics, seismic processing and medical imaging.

Delany received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Leif Ringard, Country Manager/Germany
Leif Ringard manages BackWeb's sales operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He joined BackWeb from NetManage, where he was central European sales manager, responsible for building and managing distribution and dealer channels, as well as large accounts. In less than three years, he established the company's central European operations as the leading revenue contributor outside of the U.S.

Ringard was previously a key account manager for Microsoft in Germany, specializing in the aerospace and automotive industries. Ringard has also served as a support engineer for DataMedia Corporation in Munich and as a financial systems analyst at Motorola in Munich.

Ringard served five years in the U.S. Air Force. He received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from San Diego State University.
