BackWeb Showcases Offline Portal Technology at Delphi Portal Conference Spring

SAN JOSE, CA.- May 16, 2002 - BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, announced today it will showcase its ProactivePortal technology solutions for offline portals at May 19-23, 2002. The company's exhibit will be located at the entrance to the expo floor at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

"An unfortunate reality is that the majority of IT projects fail to meet expectations, due most often to an inability to attract a critical mass of users," explains Nathaniel Palmer, Chief Analyst of Delphi Group. "Portal projects are as susceptible as any other IT initiative, and may fail to reach necessary adoption levels during the initial phase of deployment. Content alone offers no guarantee of a portal's success, as it only adds value if it is both accessible and accessed by key stakeholders. Yet these same individuals are often the busiest, road-bound, remotely located or otherwise hardest to bring to the portal. The ability to instead bring the portal to them, through measures such as offline access and proactive notification, presents one of the best opportunities for a successful project."

BackWeb offline portal technology allows the user to access critical content while disconnected from the Internet—yet with the same personalized user experience offline as online. An enterprise-class solution, the BackWeb® ProactivePortal Server can be integrated with any portal and Web-based content to deliver offline access to critical portal content. This is especially critical for millions of remote users who contribute to a company's bottom line such as executives and sales personnel. These mobile users do not have consistent Internet connections but still require access to critical content on the portal for reaching their business goals.
