BackWeb and IBM Deliver Joint Keynote Presentation at DCI Portal Conference

Portal ROI: Lessons Learned about Portal Implementations

SAN JOSE, CA.— April 29, 2002 — BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, today announced that Eli Barkat, its Chairman and CEO will be presenting a keynote address with Larry Bowden, IBM Vice President of Portal Solution Software, at DCI's Corporate and e-Business Portals Conference in San Francisco on May 1, 2002.

Portals today must address the needs of the disconnected and ‘critical to the business' users. Larry Bowden, an IBM veteran of more than 20 years, and Eli Barkat will discuss the needs of the disconnected user and how a phased approach to portal implementation and providing offline access can improve a portal project's chance of success. The session "Portal ROI: Lessons Learned about Portal Implementations" will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 9:20 a.m. (PT) at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

"Successful portals must serve as a convergence point between critical users, information and applications; a place where real work gets done," said Larry Bowden, Vice President, IBM Portals Solutions Software Group. "We've seen that when critical information is prioritized, delivered, and acknowledged by mobile portal users, businesses can maximize the employee productivity and customer loyalty benefits of deploying an enterprise portal."

BackWeb Technologies recently announced a reseller agreement with IBM WebSphere, whereby the BackWeb® ProactivePortal Server is included on the IBM pricelist. BackWeb ProactivePortal technology adds offline and online portal solutions for the IBM WebSphere Portal by allowing users to remotely access key content, to subscribe to critical content for offline and online viewing, to alerts for newly published critical content and to ensure interaction with content via a closed-loop delivery system.
