BackWeb Technologies Appoints Vice President of North American Sales

San Jose, Calif. — April 15, 2002 — BackWeb Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), the leading provider of ProactivePortal™ technologies for the enterprise, today announced the appointment of Joan Doyle Foley as vice president of North American Sales. Foley joins BackWeb Technologies with more than 20 years of sales experience in enterprise software sales organizations including IBM and Oracle; and has also led worldwide sales organizations with companies such as SuccessFactors and Austin-Hayne Corporation.

As Vice President of North American Sales, Foley is responsible for managing the Company's North American sales organization. In this capacity she will be responsible for growing the BackWeb® ProactivePortal Server™ revenue in the enterprise market and she will be based at the Company's headquarters in San Jose, California.

Immediately prior to joining BackWeb Technologies, Foley was Senior Vice President of SuccessFactors, Inc., a Web-based employee relationship management company, where she was responsible for all product, service and channel revenue. Prior to her time at SuccessFactors, she was Vice President of Worldwide Sales of Austin-Hayne Corporation, a Web-based workforce optimization company, where she supervised direct sales, inside sales, channel sales, presales and managed all channel and reseller activity. Foley's previous experience includes sales and sales management positions with Hyperion Software Corporation, Oracle, Progress Software, and IBM. She is an engineering graduate of Michigan State University
