BackWeb Delivers Fourth Release Of Industry Leading Personalized Push/Pull Technology

New PC Quote Channel Takes Advantage of New Release Capabilities

SAN JOSE, Calif. (March 31, 1997) - Today BackWeb Technologies announced the public beta of BackWeb version 2.0, the fourth release of its industry leading "push" technology, and availability of the BackWeb Proxy Server. The company also announced a new channel from PC Quote, which takes advantage of the new features of the 2.0 client.

"This is our fourth product release, which illustrates how BackWeb is leading this new market in actually delivering mature products," said Eli Barkat, CEO of BackWeb Technologies "BackWeb V2.0 is great for corporate Intranet, Internet and Extranet users, who want to make the most of bandwidth."

BackWeb, V2.0, Public Beta Release This new version of BackWeb offers a host of communication and development enhancements, including:

* differential downloads - ensures that only new or changed files are transmitted to users, minimizing the amount of information that has to be sent;
* Infopak versioning - gives channels the ability to easily distribute and manage updated information or software on users PCs.
* new compression capabilities - automatically compresses all files that are sent between the server and the client, further streamlining communication and minimizing bandwidth needs.
* the BackWeb Software Development Kit (SDK) - allows channels to integrate the BackWeb client with their own applications.

BackWeb Proxy Server, V0.9 beta
The BackWeb Proxy Server functions as a proxy server for organizations or ISPs with many BackWeb users. The proxy caches information from any BackWeb channel server so that an organization downloads information only one time, no matter how many users inside the organization access the information. The BackWeb Proxy Server also provides a convenient way for organizations to consolidate all BackWeb traffic through their firewall using the HTTP protocol.

PC Quote
This new channel from PC Quote provides investment enthusiasts the ability to have current market quote prices, company updates, market summaries and news delivered to the desktop throughout the day, as often as every 15 minutes if the user chooses. Features include an interactive scrolling ticker updated every 15 minutes, limit alerts, updates on IPOs, NASDAQ end-of-day prices, news, and other valuable market data for new and serious investors.

"PC Quote and Backweb represent a synthesis of leading technologies in our respective industries," said Lou Morgan, Chairman of PC Quote. "We are pleased to partner with Backweb to bring our datafeed, by far the fastest in the industry, to Internet investors through this cutting edge push/pull software."
