Viador and BackWeb Team to Proactively Push Critical Business Information to Enterprise Portal UsersCompanies to Integrate BackWeb's Polite Push Technology with Viador's E-Portal SuiteSAN MATEO, Calif., and SAN JOSE, Calif. — January 24, 2000 — Viador Inc.™ (Nasdaq: VIAD), the leading provider of enterprise portals, and BackWeb® Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of push for e-business solutions, today announced a joint effort to allow Viador E-Portal Suite™ customers to transform their enterprise portals into proactive, personalized sources of current and vital information. Viador's E-Portal Suite, which provides a single, secure point of access to all sources of business information, will be integrated with BackWeb's Polite™ push technology, enabling portal hosts to proactively send critical and time-sensitive content to portal subscribers, and then notifying them via a high-impact alert when it arrives. BackWeb also automatically ensures that portal subscribers always have the most current information, with updates delivered efficiently and politely in the background. "The enterprise portal is fast becoming the core building block for e-businesses. Our work with BackWeb reflects our aggressive efforts to partner with industry leaders to bring our customers the most advanced and complete solutions in the market," said Stan Wang, president and CEO of Viador. "By integrating BackWeb's Polite push capabilities with Viador's E-Portal Suite, we are extending the portal beyond the browser, and adding a new personalized, automated information service that ensures proactive notification of important information, while always providing users with the most current content." Businesses can benefit broadly from the integration of BackWeb's push technology into Viador's E-Portal Suite. For example, an enterprise portal for a financial services firm can automatically alert its traders to changes in market conditions, and even offer them a chance to buy or sell stock simply by responding to the alert. Or a computer products manufacturer can use its enterprise portal to ensure that sales people, field engineers and resellers all have the latest marketing materials and documentation delivered automatically to their desktops. "Viador is a pioneer of the proactive enterprise portal, and together we are transforming the notion of what a portal can be," said Eli Barkat, chairman and CEO of BackWeb Technologies. "We are delighted to work with Viador to provide groundbreaking solutions for new and existing customers who will benefit from their creative use of BackWeb technology, which is fast developing as a de facto Internet standard." With BackWeb's patented Polite push technology, Global 2,000 companies can deliver multimedia-rich digital packages of any size or format, including audio, video, graphics and html. BackWeb's Polite Agent™ avoids disrupting the consumer by using only available bandwidth and politely delivering the information in the background. BackWeb allows anyone who is connected to a network to automatically receive notifications and/or content sent by their business portal, even if they are not actively browsing the Web or visiting the portal. With Viador's enterprise portal, this unique feature allows content to proactively find users and, if appropriate, return them to the portal site. Viador's E-Portal Suite customers will be able to seamlessly deploy BackWeb's push for e-business solutions for proactive content delivery and response in Q2 2000. Also as part of a new cooperative marketing agreement, each company will train its sales force on both product lines, and participate in joint sales and marketing activities.
